Used EVs for £15,000 to £20,000

Hyundai Ioniq 5

As promised, this time I said I would go through my recommendations for the £15,000 and £20,000 budget. At this price point you have a lot of choice at all sizes and ranges. This means that general recommendations are harder due more good options being available.

£15,000

This price point gives plenty of attractive choices where you really don’t have to make compromises with range or size. My usual recommendation at this price is always the Hyundai Kona or the Kia e-Niro. Both these cars share the same platform and have very similar specifications. The e-Niro is the bigger car and because of this slightly less efficient. This being said a range of well over 250 miles should be achievable throughout the year. These cars are such good options it is hard to recommend anything else. However, if you need more space then the MG4 offers an excellent choice. These estates should get over 200 miles in the smaller battery spec and offer all the technology you could want.

£20,000

From this point onwards you are getting newer versions of what I have recommended with less miles but there are a few new options. Tesla Model 3 is an obvious recommendation either the standard range or the dual motor. I’d suggest holding out for a dual motor as they go usefully further and charge plenty faster. A small city car option is the fiat 500e. You can get basically new, preregistered cars in budget. Whilst you’ll be lucky to get 200 miles they are a great city car. Also, at this price range you are just starting to see some Hyundai Ioniq 5s. These are great family cars that should be able to achieve 250 miles plus of charge with the added benefit of very fast charging speeds.
